Odd personal problem that my doctor won

Odd personal problem that my doctor won

I have white mucus in my stool. It has been this way for weeks. I visited my family doctor and he told me to visit the emergency room, so I did this, and I they simply told me to eat more fiber. They didn't take a stool sample and they wouldn't listen to my description. They just kept assuming I was constipated - even though I was using the restroom 3 or 4 times a day. The white mucus becomes worse by the day and I have severe pain every time I use the restroom. What do you suggest I do?

You need  to find a new doctor.  You may have a serious condition and you need to insist on lab work.  Stool normally contains a small amount of mucus, but passing stools with visible amounts of mucus can be from a variety of causes. Mucus in the stool is a common symptom of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and ulcerative colitis (UC), and is seen to a lesser degree in Crohn's disease (CD). A bacterial infection, anal fissure, or a bowel obstruction may also cause the passage of mucus.

You have to be seen.  If your doctor won't address this, get a new one.  I can't believe he didn't order a stool sample, easiest test in the world.  They can test for hidden blood, pathogens, etc... You may need a scan of some type.  If you have an adequate fiber intake, your stools aren't hard, and you are stooling....constipation is not the problem.  White mucus is not the most important issue  The severe pain when defecating is.  Make an appointment with a different doc, yeah ER is not the place.

Try flushing your system. Use a product such as Miralax or some type of fiber pills that are natural (Senakot). Drink nothing but fluids for a day.

Clearing your system should help with the multiple bathroom visits.

Also, ask for a referal to see a gastro doctor - a colonoscopy can assist in diagnosing your problems.

Perhaps they are suggesting fiber because simply going to the bathroom "three times a day" does not suggest everything is o.k. How do you know it's not the lack of fiber if you don't try the fiber. Perhaps the pain is from hemorrhoids. Try flax seed and/or Psyllium Seed Husk. It is really good for you

Ask your doctor for a referral. If your family doctor recommends the ER, something is up. You need to see a specialist at this point.
