so...i was diagnoses with planta faciitis a little over a year ago. since then i have tried pretty much all the conservative treatment (quality running shoes, orthotics, anti-inflammatory meds, cortisone steriod shots, put in a boot, pt, and finally serial casting to stretch out my foot 24/7). after all of this nothing really has helped...so my ortho surgeon said we are going to the plantar fascia release surgery. any ways my question....has anyone out there had this done? how painful is it?

I also have/had plantar facitis.  For a number of years I went through all that you listed.  I even went for the ultrasonic treatment that is supposed to help break up the scarring on the facia.  No luck.  I then agreed to the surgery.  While the surgery was no lasting big deal, ice and some Tylenol were all that I used.  The ice really helped numb it when it hurt.  The surgery didn't relieve the pain though.  After another 4 months, I begged my surgeon to cut the nerve it was so bad.  He suggested physical therapy.  This was a god send.  I have never felt better.  It took about 2 months of twice a week but my pain level went down from an 8-9 to a 1-2.  That was about 4 years ago and have never regretted it.
