Is jelly or jam healthy?

Is jelly or jam healthy?

Not really because it's high in sugar

sugar water....that is all it is.  No nutritional value.   Hard on the teeth. too.  Provides a quick burn(like eating a tablespoon of sugar) but you will be hungry soon.Same as pouring gas on a fire-quick flare up but quick flare down.....  Better to have something with a little more staying power such as peanut butter (it too has alot of sugar but the nuts  have protein and fat which are necessary for a longer burn(like throwing a hunk of wood on the fire provides a longer fire)   Cheese is even better as the there is no sugar in it so it is protein and fat(both needed for energy).   I put jelly ontop of the cheese sandwich - it tastes OK.

Not particularly - it's really high in sugar, even if it is natural sugars. Having said that, as long as you're not polishing off a jar a day, I really don't see the harm in having a piece of toast with jam on it! Moderation is the key to everything.

Jelly has a lot of added sugars and jam is the better choice of the two because it doesn't. Even better is fruit preserves sold beside the jellys. It is all natural without added sugar and fat and it tastes the same if not better.

Although it is very high in sugar, it is better to have sugar than fat. The sugar in jam is a good thing to provide you with energy and is better than having cheese or peanut butter for example.

Depends on the amount of sugar used to preserve it.

If its preserved with pectin with little added sugar, it can be.

But most commercial jams and jellies are not made that way, so check the label when in doubt!

Well no and yes. It has high amounts of sugar. It's not really about whats healthy, you could have BBQ like twice a week by balancing and rationing it out properly. You would still lose weight.

nah, its not that great.. anything very high in sugars causes inflamation in the body and higher insulin...  but one tbs a day will not hurt you
