if I have a viral infection of some sort.. any viral infection, std virus or common cold virus..



wouldnt it show up in my blood count either? i understand it wont pinpoint the disease, but wouldnt the doctors look at my wbc, if they see somethin abnormal especially when comparing blood work and say "ok, we see a infection, it may be HIV so we need to go test for it"



i know when ur sick.. u have a infection, the blood count will be off no matter what.. so if my blood count seems a bit normal at 2 months.. combined with a negative HIV test..  isnt that a good sign enough?



btw, i caught a cold like a week after my 2 months HIV test.. it seems like i had the cold for a whle month now (now 3 months).. the doctors see no throat infection, normal blood count.. nothin of the x rays.. no fever for 3 months, no swollen lymph nodes , no weight loss, then wut is it really a cold i was suffering or is this HIV hiding??

As you stated, a low white blood cell count is very general finding. In HIV, specific WBCs known as CD4 cells are monitored. I would recommend that you repeat an HIV test. It is generally accepted that it can take up to 6 months after a possible exposure for HIV to produce a positive test. When exposed to HIV, your body produces antibodies. The ELISA test, detects these antibodies. If the antibodies have just started to form, there may not be enough to be detected by the test.



You should know that HIV is rarely symptomatic in the early stages. So a cold/ general malaise is not enough to assume HIV is present.



If the person with whom you were with tested negative for HIV, then it is very unlikely that you yourself have HIV. The only way to get HIV is from direct fluid transmission from an infected individual.



A negative test a 2 months is a good sign; but, I would recommend taking at least one more test just for peace of mind.

doctors don't normally think "HIV". they usually rule out many other things 1st. Cause likely, it is not hiv, although, i know it could easily be. Doctors I have asked say if you have hiv your white blood cell count MIGHT be high, b/c when it is hiv your immune system is fighting[reason for high wbc count]. more than likely, its a simple infection. my dr's also said when it becomes aids your wbc count MAY BE very low. Because your body can no longer fight. But they have seemed to say a cbc is a very non-specific test, vague. They don't suspect hiv/aids thru a cbc beacause it could be related to almost anything. [any abnormal blood count]. that is why they have a specific blood test that only tests for hiv.  its so scary; i am too scared to get tested, but that one test is the only fool-proof way of knowing.
