Dry, irritated face. Is it my cleanser?

Dry, irritated face. Is it my cleanser?

A couple of days ago I started using neutrogena extra-gentle cleanser. It was working great! My light case of acne was almost gone and my skin tone was very even. Before I began using this cleanser I had some small irritated areas around my mouth. These areas were not red, but it felt like my skin was burned there. I'm guessing the irritation was caused by me forgetting to rinse off the toothpaste around my mouth after brushing my teeth.

Anyways, since the cleanser claimed to be very gentle and add back moisture to the skin I thought that it would help heal the irritation around my mouth.

For a couple of days the irritation didn't change, but one day in the late afternoon I noticed that there was a larger area around my mouth that felt itchy and dry. That night I put aloe vera around a lot of my mouth and the next morning I woke up with skin that was even more irritated and dry than before.

Do you think that my new cleanser caused my skin to freak?

you could be using too much and it is drying out your skin. try not using it for a day or two and see if it helps, if it happens everytime you use it consistently then you might want to switch brands

I have never had problems with my skin and this is what I do...I take my showers at night only...I wash my face only at night and after that  I put on  some kind of face cream...Im the morning if my face feels dry I'll put on some more cream...but usually in the morning I don;t need it....I but on my make up and the natural oils mostrize my skin

haha well drooling is probably why youre having the problem around your mouth.

try getting dramatically different moisturizing GEL (the yellow one) from clinique.

its very lightweight and will help with the dryness and itchiness.

make sure you get the gel for oily skin, not the lotion.

Sounds like it could have been a reaction to the cleanser. Mine will do that too with certain cleansers. My Derm. said i might not have been rinsing the soap off enough.  So that could be a problem.  You should try putting some vasaline on it or go see a dermatologist if it gets any worse.

Obviously I don't know for sure, but it sounds like whatever you have was irritated by the new product,  not caused by it.  You may want to check with your derm to see what it is and how to treat it.

it could be the cleanser but maybe no!

maybe you have ecema!

get some hydrocortison

max relief and try that out.

you might be allergic to something in your cleanser. i'm allergic to benzoyl peroxide which is a main ingredient in alot of acne clearing products. but i finally realized that to get rid of your acne, i needed to wash my face multiple times a day. after washing my face, i needed to put moisturizer on it in order to not let it dry up. if it dries up, it might get irritated.

after using your cleanser, try putting some moisturizer on it (i use neutrogena) because your skin lacks the natural oils due to the washings. you need to put moisture back on your face or else your skin will look for excess oils which can cause breakouts and acne.

if this doesn't work, then you should switch your cleanser or consult a dermatologist. goodluck.
