my girlfriend had an contraceptive implant  put in on the 26th of march this year an ever scince she has had it she is always on her period only for about  2 maybe 3 days a month she is off an im worried about her should this be happening to her

every one i know who had the implant had this prob the whole time they were on it (over a year)  a few of them went on the injection and found this better.

This is completely normal, as contraceptives cause an alteration in hormonal patterns which often result in lighter, less frequent periods.  Be glad! She should be much more comfortable with these lighter periods and it can even improve her overall mood and sense of well-being.  You're a good boyfriend to worry about her, but you will both be fine. :-)

Women lose less blood during menstruation with the implant.  Implants are quite likely to cause irregular periods in some women. If bothersome to her, she should contact her clinician. There are drugs that a woman may take to have a more acceptable pattern of bleeding. As time goes on a woman's periods may become more regular.

Commonly when you have an implant put in your periods become lighter and may disappear entirely. I wouldn't worry too much about it if I was you.



If you have any concerns you should talk to your girlfriend, I don't think she'll mind talking to you if you guys are in a serious, commited relationship.

many types of birth control will change the length/strength of a period.

If she/you is/are really worried worried about call the doctor and ask to talk to nurse.  They can give you reassurance or tell you to come in.

It is my guess that they will tell you it will pass.  When I switched to a new birth control I was on my period for weeks!  I was miserable I just had a light period that would not go away.  The nurse reassured me it was normal and a year later I expierence little to no pain during my period and lighter shorter cycles.

Best thing your g/f can do is call her doctor and ask to speak w/ the advice nurse. The nurse or medical assistant will be happy to answer any of your/her questions. Flow is a very unique thing to each girl. Everyone's different however, if she is concerned, it can't hurt to speak w/ a medical professional. You will both feel better when your minds are relieved that everything's OK.

same thing happend to me when i was on the birth control shot i got off of it when it started to happen but the doctor told me that its normal.. that is happens alot with periods and i asked her well what happens if i dont stop bleeding she said then you become anemik and pass out... she said that it doesnt usually happen so you should be okay... im still the same way usually periods are like that they get all out of wack when a girl gets on birthcontrol

Yes, she should go see a doctor. Generally, within the first couple of months girls will get some light bleeding throughout the month. But, it should've stopped by now.

No girl should be on her period for almost the entire month, poor thing.

Some girls have bad reactions to those implants... is it an IUD?  This could be her body rejecting it.

I'm not a doctor, but I know that's not normal.
