What the heck is it ?

Hives are raised, often itchy, red welts on the surface of the skin. They are usually an allergic reaction to food or medicine.

Hives are a raised itchy and painful skin rash also called nettle rash....its not american.

They are usually caused by an allergy to food, insect sting or medication and can last between several hours and six weeks.

Believe me you dont want to have this horrible condition. I have it often and sometimes the itch is unbearable. Its usually a reaction to something your body rejects, in my case its certain e numbers

No this term is used in the UK too. Urticaria (or hives) is a skin condition, commonly caused by an allergic reaction, that is characterized by raised red skin wheals (welts).

Hives is an American term for what we call Urticaria or allergy rash.
