Ok, I have to go to summer school, right. Well, their replacing our gym floors and now they have asbestos and no tresspassing signs EVERYWHERE!!!! Thay have all the machines out to. How long could the take? We have a very large gym. Oh, just for referance, I go to Highlans Elementry, Appleton, Wisconsin. Yes, Im a kid!!!! Could the whole school have asbestos? it was built in 1966.

Asbestos exposure can cause fatal diseases and are especially dangerous to young kids.  Any kind of exposure can cause problems later in life--asbestosis is one which causes the lungs to become gradually brittle and evenutally impossible to breathe.  Not fun.  There may be some indication that it may cause Hodgekins disease (cancer of the lymph glands) too, as it may have done in some schools in NJ.  So, it is better to take a break and stand back and let the work get done to clean things up.  You won't regret it.

Health department they regulate the buildings in your town .You can go to the town hall and ask the town manager for the records. They should be open to you as a citizen regardless of your age. Take a look in to that your and the kids around you heath could be compromised but don't get to worried it takes a long term ex-posher to get any illness from asbestos

yes, asbestos was very prominent in buildings in that era for insulation, but once they clear it out (and hopefully they are disposing of it properly!) it should be fine.  As long as the asbestos in other parts of the buildings isn't disturbed, it can't be dispersed into the air and therefore can't be harmful.  So as long as you don't see them ripping it out with their hands without correct ventillation, it should be safe!  :-)
